Background information about The Choir

The choir regularly gives concerts in a variety of venues in Shropshire and beyond. In doing so, has helped raise money for numerous charities.

1980 saw the choir's first overseas tour, to Thiers in France. Since then we have been on some 25 tours, some abroad, some in this country. For details of the choir visits please click here.

As part of the Shrewsbury International Music Festival, choirs from about 7 nations have visited and shared the stage in concert with the Much Wenlock Choir. Singing and socializing with these choirs is one of the highlights of the year.

UK choirs have also been welcomed and the joint concerts enjoyed by all. These include Lon Dhoo Choir IOM; Regal Singers, IOM; Icknield MVC; Cwmtawe MVC; Greater Manchester Police Choir; Northampton MVC; Rhayader MVC;Rame Peninsula MVC; Llanelly MVC; Newquay MVC.

The choir has joined other choirs for massed choir concerts at Manchester, Llangollen, Cardiff, Dublin and Birmingham.

Through making contacts with European Choirs we have visited and hosted choirs from Holland, Germany, Belgium and France.

The choir tries to go away for long weekends (sometimes longer) at least once a year and joining a local choir or band for a concert on a Saturday Evening. We have had enjoyable weekends at Totnes, Beer, Ilfracombe, IOW, IOM, Formby, Ireland, New Quay, Guernsey, Jersey, Plymouth and Perth.
